Q. Doug, why is it so important for a person with diabetes to be concerned with proper foot care?
Doug: People with diabetes can have nerve damage in their feet! This makes it hard to know when your feet may
be getting too cold, or cut, scratched, or burned. This happens because no pain is felt. If left untreated these
simple issues could become infected, and in some situations could lead to amputation!
Q. What preventative measures can a person do to help avoid these foot issues?
Doug: Check your feet daily! Look at the tops, bottoms, and in between the toes. Notify your doctor if you have
scratches, cuts, cracks, blisters, ingrown toenails, corns or calluses. Wash your feet daily and trim toenails
on a regular basis. Remember you can always ask your friendly, knowledgeable Cub Pharmacist for advice
